Kathy, a resident of Caretel Inns Brighton, has a passion for baking and a heartfelt respect for veterans. This holiday season, she brought these two loves together in a memorable Dream Maker experience, baking homemade Christmas cookies to honor and thank local veterans for their service and sacrifice.
Having spent much of her career working closely with veterans, Kathy has always been deeply moved by their dedication to the nation and their communities. She often recalls one veteran whose gratitude left a lasting impression: “He would run into my arms whenever he saw me,” she shared, reflecting on the bond they shared. For Kathy, supporting veterans has always been a personal mission. “They endured so much—they deserve everything,” she said with conviction.
Kathy’s appreciation set the stage for a day of baking filled with warmth, joy, and the delicious aroma of freshly baked cookies. Joining her was her sister Sherry, who shares her love for baking, her daughter Kelsee and Kelsee’s family, and her dear friend Marlou. Together, they transformed simple ingredients into festive works of art, ensuring each cookie carried a message of gratitude and holiday cheer.
Adding to the festive spirit, students from Livingston Christian School surprised the group with a heartfelt rendition of Silent Night. Their beautiful caroling brought a touch of magic to the day, creating memories that will be cherished for years.
The following day, Kathy and her brother Paul personally delivered the cookies to Livingston County Veteran Services in Howell, MI, and the Brighton VFW. The recipients were deeply touched by her thoughtful gesture, making the experience even more meaningful.
This two-day celebration highlighted Kathy’s love for baking, her unwavering support for veterans, and the profound joy that comes from giving back. It was a heartwarming reminder of the spirit of gratitude and the deep appreciation we owe to those who have served our country.
