Since moving to Caretel Inns Assisted Living, Mildred had been eager to share something special with the new friends and neighbors to whom she’d grown close. Partnering with Caretel’s Dream Maker Team, she decided to whip up a batch of her beloved rice pudding, a cherished family recipe passed down from her mother who grew up in Macedonia. It was Mildred’s way of offering not just a dessert, but a little taste of home to her Caretel family.
To make the event even more meaningful, the Dream Maker Team wove in touches of Macedonia. When Mildred first met her husband, he played in a band that specialized in traditional Macedonian music. As guests savored spoonfuls of her homemade pudding, they tapped their toes to a CD of her late husband’s favorite tunes. Adding to the magic, the gathering happened to fall on what would have been Mildred and her husband’s 63rd wedding anniversary—a poignant reminder of love, music, and tradition.
Embracing the festive spirit, Mildred’s family joined the celebration, along with Father Antonie from St. Clement Church, where her family has long been part of the community. Father Antonie captured the heart of the moment, saying, ‘Macedonians don’t just serve food; they place their hearts on the table, sharing kindness and love, turning every gathering into a joyous celebration for all. There is no better blessing than to sit together and break bread together.’
It was a joy to witness Mildred’s dream come to life, surrounded by friends, family, and fond memories.
Symphony’s Dream Maker program is at the heart of who we are as a company. It allows us the privilege to learn about the wishes and dreams of our guests and to do whatever we can to transform that hope into a reality. A Dream Maker request can be something daring, a simple pleasure, an untold wish, or even reliving a fond memory. If it will enrich the life of a guest, we want to hear about it!
